Bono needs to check a lot of things. Including his ego, hubris and those stupid sunglasses. But, I have to admit, U2 from the 80' still makes me sing along.
I fully admit that Bono has got an ego/hubris thing going - but then again so would I if I were the lead for the biggest band since The Beatles.
But he actually gets a lot of respect from me. As soon as most entertainers get an ego they seem to think we all suddenly want to hear their opinion on who's in the White House. But Bono actually speaks about something with far more purpose (starvation in Africa) and actually does something about it (donates $$ everytime someone sends a text to a foundation from one of his concerts).
But more than that, he's a born again Christian and actually has made some very profound statements about his faith.
But, you're right about one thing - it would be a whole lot easier to take him seriously if he would justtake off those silly glasses!
Ha ha! Well said. I have no compunctions about the man expressing an opinion or about him using his fame for helping others. I don't even begrudge him his faith. But he came to Canada a few years back to endorse a political candidate for Prime Minister. He showed up to the Liberal covention and endorsed the Liberal party because the Liberals were committed to the Kyoto accord. I just don't think he has any business influencing the selection of world leaders in places he holds no citizenship. I think the Kyoto accord was a good step, I don't think Bono should use star power to influence Canadian politics. Bet you didn't know such an innocent post would be the harbinger for a serious discussion. Sorry.
Huh, interesting that Bono got involved in Canadian politics - I've always appreciated how he has managed, for the most part, to steer clear of American politics unless it served his African purposes!
But I totally see your point in that he best not try to influence votes in a country where he has no citizenship - something about that doesn't sit well with me.
It may sound crazy, but I think Arnold Swchartzennegger (or however you spell his last name) did it right. If you're an entertainer and want to be in politics, then stop being an entertainer for a while and win an election with a write-in vote! I can't stand it when actors act like they are someone who should be taken seriously just because they have a political opinion and have won an Oscar!
I have a political opinion but apparently nobody is going to take me seriously until I have a stupid brass trophy as credentials! Which is, I'm sure, exactly how the founding fathers of democracy envisioned it to be!
And by the way, I don't mind the "serious discussion" at all!

Hey Lawn,
